Distributed Generation

With home and business owners wanting to save electricity, more consumers are jumping on the idea of creating their own generation (usually through solar) and exporting back into the grid.

Nelson Electricity has come on board with solar photo-voltaic generation and, due to popular demand, we have attached the below forms which can be completed and submitted to Nelson Electricity for approval.  Please also read the accompanying Network Conditions document prior to submission.

For solar generation of less than 10kW, our Application is in two parts.  Pages 1 and 2 is the Application itself which must be submitted to Nelson Electricity prior to any installation.  Once approved, the solar panels and inverter can be installed and when completed the Declaration documents (pages 3 and 4 of the Application) can be returned along with any electrical testing paperwork for completion inspection, testing, metering and livening.

Nelson Electricity does not charge an application fee for a new solar photo-voltaic generation application.

There are now network export congestion issues on the Nelson Electricity network as a result of solar generation so consumers and installers are encouraged to read the attached Network Congestion document to determine any export restrictions for new installations.
